Job Description

Big machines, long days in season: a wheat farm near Welkom needs a skilled operator. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Home base is a wheat farm on the Welkom side of Free State. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

The work, day to day

Plant rows straight, using GPS guidance where the tractor has it
Hook up and drive ploughs, discs, planters and sprayers
Check oil, water, tyres and grease points before starting
Report breakdowns and help the mechanic with repairs
Clear firebreaks and grade farm roads when needed
Record hours, fuel and fields worked on the job card

Must-haves

Safe driver who respects chemical and machine safety
Willing to work long hours in planting and harvest seasons
Can read job cards and spray instructions
At least 2 years driving tractors on a farm

Helpful, not essential

Combine harvester experience
A pesticide application or spray course
Code 8 or Code 10 licence for road trips
