Staff Nurse (Night Shift)

Your care keeps residents at a private medical ward in Germiston safe, clean and comfortable through the day. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a private medical ward on the Germiston side of Gauteng. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores

• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate

• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Dementia care or palliative care short course

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Overtime paid at time and a half

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
