Staff Nurse (Night Shift) – Permanent

A home-based care agency in Upington needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll be based at a home-based care agency in Upington. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered

• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely

• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• Dementia care or palliative care short course

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Uniform supplied
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
