Staff Nurse (Night Shift)

You'll give hands-on nursing care at a retirement village frail care centre in Vanderbijlpark, working alongside registered nurses. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is a retirement village frail care centre on the Vanderbijlpark side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose

• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits

• Uniform supplied
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care

• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
