Steel Fixer (Reinforcing) – Entry Level

The shopping centre extension in eMalahleni needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a shopping centre extension in eMalahleni. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off

• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test

• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade
• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter

• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
