Structural Steel Detailer (Tekla)

You'll turn engineers' sketches into accurate drawings for the engineering design office in George. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at an engineering design office.

• Draft civil layouts, longitudinal sections and cross sections for services
• Keep the drawing register current and issue drawings on time
• Update drawings after engineer comments and track revisions
• Follow SANS 10111 drawing conventions and the office title block standard
• Produce bills of materials from 3D models
• Model steel structures in Tekla and produce shop drawings and cutting lists
• Check shop drawings from subcontractors against design drawings

• Good time planning when several projects need drawings at once
• Advanced skills in AutoCAD plus one 3D package
• Able to read engineers' mark-ups and ask the right questions
• National Diploma or N6 in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or a draughting qualification
• Understanding of engineering drawing standards and tolerances

• Registration with ECSA as a Candidate Engineering Technician
• Revit or Civil 3D experience
• Experience with plant piping design software

• Two-screen workstation
• Paid training on new software

• Latest CAD software licences

• List the software versions you use daily. Firms want to know you can start without training.
• A good drawing portfolio beats a long CV. Show a range: general arrangement, details and a 3D model view.
