Theatre Cleaner (Private Hospital)

• Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
• Mop spills of blood or fluids using the spill kit
• Clean theatres between operations to the hospital's turnaround times
• Move patients' belongings and equipment when rooms change
• Disinfect bed rails, call bells and bedside lockers

• Matric or Grade 11
• Not squeamish about blood, vomit or medical waste
• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty
• Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B
• Respectful and discreet around patients

• Previous hospital or clinic cleaning experience
• An infection prevention and control short course
• Experience as a porter or general assistant in healthcare

• Shift allowances for nights and Sundays
• On-the-job infection control training
• Medical aid option through the employer

• Mention any hospital, clinic or old-age home work first, even if it was short. Healthcare recruiters shortlist people who know ward routines.
• If you did an infection control course, attach the certificate. It moves you ahead of general cleaners.
