Tiler (Floors & Wet Areas) – Immediate Start

The shopping centre extension in Newcastle needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Location: Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs

• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements

• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade

• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post

• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
