Job Description

Timber keeps rural towns working, and an eucalyptus plantation near Stellenbosch is hiring crews. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The work is in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

What your day looks like

Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times

What you need

Passes the medical check for fire crews
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Valid ID
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Willing to work in remote areas

Nice if you have

First-aid training
Chainsaw operator certificate
Fire fighting training
