Toolmaker (Press Tools & Moulds) – Immediate Start

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the cement plant in Midrand. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a cement plant on the Midrand side of Gauteng.

• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors

• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects

• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
• CNC programming experience

• Shift and standby allowances
• Tool allowance
• Paid overtime on shutdowns

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
