Toolmaker (Press Tools & Moulds)

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the general engineering workshop in Umhlanga. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Umhlanga (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• CNC programming experience

• Tool allowance

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
