Transport Controller (Long Haul Fleet)

You'll plan the loads and watch the trucks for a distribution depot in Johannesburg CBD, keeping every trip on time. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a distribution depot on the Johannesburg CBD side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Plan daily loads to use full truck capacity
• Capture trip sheets, fuel and toll costs on the system
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests
• Assign trucks and drivers to routes and track them on telematics
• Update customers on delivery times and delays
• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries

• Matric
• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers
• Good with Excel and email
• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong

• Knowledge of cross-border documentation
• Experience on a vehicle telematics platform

• Office-based work with a steady roster
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems
• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts

• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
