Transport Refrigeration Technician (Truck Units)

The cold chain logistics company in Kempton Park needs an HVAC technician who knows both the electrical side and the refrigerant side. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

The work is in Kempton Park, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Commission new systems and show the client how to use the controls
• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services
• Install split units, cassettes and ducted systems, including brazing and vacuum work
• Replace thermostatic expansion valves and electronic controllers
• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a
• Complete service reports on a tablet and have the site manager sign them

• Refrigeration and air-conditioning trade test or an NQF 4 occupational certificate
• SAQCC Gas registration as an authorised person for refrigerants
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat

• Building management system alarm handling
• Transport refrigeration units on trucks and trailers

• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges
• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack
• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns

• Your SAQCC Gas card must be current. Put the expiry date on your CV so nobody has to ask.
• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
