Job Description

The truck dealership workshop in Tzaneen needs a trade-tested diesel mechanic for workshop and field work. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is Tzaneen-based, with most of your time spent at a truck dealership workshop. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

What you'll actually do

  • Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
  • Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
  • Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
  • Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
  • Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles
  • Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
  • Repair hydraulics on tippers, cranes and tail-lifts

What you need

  • Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
  • Diesel mechanic trade test certificate
  • Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits
  • Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
  • Solid understanding of air brake systems
  • Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines

Nice if you have

  • Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses
  • Auto electrical skills
  • Hydraulic systems training

On offer

  • Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
  • Provident fund and funeral cover
  • Overtime available most weeks
  • Standby and call-out allowance
