Wine Steward (Fine Dining)

You'll look after tables at a beachfront cocktail bar in Stellenbosch, from the first greeting to the final bill. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Stellenbosch (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

• Restock the bar fridges and help with the weekly stock count.
• Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.
• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.
• Take orders on the POS tablet and read them back to avoid kitchen mistakes.
• Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
• Carry plates to the right seat without auctioning food at the table.
• Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.

• Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
• You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
• Grade 10 or higher; matric is a plus
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts

• Responsible Service of Alcohol training
• A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans
• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills

• You keep your own tips, paid out daily or weekly
• Staff meal on every shift
• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Paid menu and wine tastings so you can sell with confidence

• Walk in with your CV between 2pm and 4pm when managers have time, not during lunch or dinner service.
• Recruiters ask about a difficult table, so have one real story ready about how you turned it around.
