Job Description

Teach at a public high school in East London where your planning, marking and patience all count. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a public high school in East London. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

What you'll actually do

  • Teach your allocated classes and keep the pace of the ATP
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
  • Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind

Must-haves

  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)

Nice if you have

  • Experience marking for the NSC or IEB
  • Experience with remedial or inclusive education
  • Honours degree in your subject or in education management

What you get

  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
  • School holidays in line with the school calendar
  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools

Applying, step by step

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: police clearance issued in the last 6 months, two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself plus SACE registration certificate.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 6 working days.
