Job Description

You'll run your own files from instruction to judgment at a financial services company legal department in Kimberley. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The work is in Kimberley, Northern Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

The work, day to day

Track legislation changes that affect clients' businesses
Review company processes for POPIA and privacy compliance
Brief counsel and prepare them for trial and opposed motions
Negotiate settlements and draft settlement agreements
Keep trust account instructions and fee notes accurate
Draft and review contracts, shareholder agreements and legal opinions
Manage a portfolio of litigation or advisory matters on your own

What you need

Able to manage client relationships without a senior in the room
Sound judgement under deadline pressure
Strong drafting and legal research
Right of appearance in the High Court for litigation posts
At least 2 years of post-admission experience in the relevant field
LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa

Helpful, not essential

Experience on bank or insurer panels
Certificate in data protection or compliance
LLM or postgraduate certificate in your specialist area
