Job Description

Your subject, your classroom and learners who need you to believe in them: that's this low-fee private school in Bellville. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Bellville-based, with most of your time spent at a low-fee private school.

The work, day to day

  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
  • Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers
  • Capture marks on SA-SAMS or the school's reporting platform before deadlines
  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them

What you need

  • Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach

Nice if you have

  • Honours degree in your subject or in education management
  • Experience marking for the NSC or IEB

What's in it for you

  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools
  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies
