Job Description

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at a rural combined school in Cape Town CBD. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a rural combined school. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

What your day looks like

  • Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
  • Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
  • Capture marks on SA-SAMS or the school's reporting platform before deadlines

Must-haves

  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance

Extra points for

  • Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework
  • Experience with remedial or inclusive education

On offer

  • School holidays in line with the school calendar
  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools
  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts

Applying, step by step

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record, SACE registration certificate plus police clearance issued in the last 6 months.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 8 working days.
