Aftercare Supervisor (Primary School)

You'll care for and teach young children at a private pre-primary school in Newcastle, from nappies to first letters. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is in Newcastle (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went
• Run morning ring with songs, weather and counting
• Prepare simple, nutritious snacks and keep the kitchen hygienic
• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe
• Plan themes and holiday programmes with the principal
• Set up daily learning areas for art, blocks, reading and fantasy play
• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine

• Paediatric first aid certificate
• Experience caring for children in a group setting, even as a volunteer
• Clear Form 30 child protection check and police clearance
• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners

• Basic music, art or movement skills for group activities
• Montessori diploma or Reggio-inspired training
• Experience with children with special needs

• Short holiday closures over December and Easter
• Lunch provided on school days
• Sponsored ECD Level 5 studies

• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
• Add one sentence about an activity you ran that the children loved; it shows you can plan, not just supervise.
