Aircon Installer (Residential)

The air-conditioning maintenance company in Paarl needs an HVAC technician who knows both the electrical side and the refrigerant side. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is Paarl-based, with most of your time spent at an air-conditioning maintenance company. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a
• Respond to temperature alarms from cold rooms before stock is lost
• Commission new systems and show the client how to use the controls
• Complete service reports on a tablet and have the site manager sign them
• Recover refrigerant into cylinders and log every kilogram used
• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services

• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• Understanding of single- and three-phase control circuits
• SAQCC Gas registration as an authorised person for refrigerants
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate

• Experience with VRF systems or chillers
• CO2 transcritical refrigeration experience in retail stores
• Building management system alarm handling

• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns
• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you
• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges

• Your SAQCC Gas card must be current. Put the expiry date on your CV so nobody has to ask.
• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
