Apprentice Motor Mechanic (merSETA)

This franchised passenger vehicle dealership in Benoni needs a qualified mechanic who can handle services, repairs and electrical faults. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Location: Benoni, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering
• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Diagnose engine, ABS and airbag faults with an OBD-II diagnostic scanner
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs

• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars
• Your own basic toolbox

• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration
• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training

• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Productivity bonus on sold hours above target
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer

• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
• If you hit or beat your sold-hour target, say by how much. Workshop managers love that number.
