Apprentice Motor Mechanic (merSETA)

Good with a scan tool and a torque wrench? This independent service workshop in Roodepoort needs you in a bay. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is Roodepoort-based, with most of your time spent at an independent service workshop. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Write clear job card notes on what you found and what you fixed
• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering

• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Your own basic toolbox
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4

• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration
• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training
• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy

• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Tool allowance or tool insurance
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer

• Do not leave gaps unexplained. Say if you were working for yourself or doing mobile repairs.
• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
