Job Description

You'll phone customers who have fallen behind and agree payment plans they can actually keep. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Location: Durban Central, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first.

The work, day to day

Answer disputes about balances, interest and fees with a printed statement.
Hand accounts over for legal action once internal steps are exhausted.
Negotiate payment arrangements and set up DebiCheck mandates.
Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.
Keep calls within the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act rules.
Update debtor contact details from tracing searches.
Report daily on rands collected, contacts made and arrangements set.

Must-haves

You keep your tone respectful even when the debtor is not
Clear credit and criminal record
Matric
Registered, or willing to register, with the Council for Debt Collectors
At least 6 months in collections, sales or a call centre

Extra points for

Knowledge of the NCA and prescription rules
Legal collections or attorney-firm background
