Artisan Fitter (Conveyor Maintenance)

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the packaging manufacturer in George. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at a packaging manufacturer. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely

• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns

• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

• Shift and standby allowances
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Tool allowance

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
