Associate Attorney (Commercial Litigation)

A boutique labour law practice in Johannesburg CBD needs an attorney who can draft, advise and stand up in court. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is in Johannesburg CBD (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Supervise and train candidate attorneys and paralegals
• Draft and review contracts, shareholder agreements and legal opinions
• Negotiate settlements and draft settlement agreements
• Record billable time and hit the monthly target
• Advise clients on risk, settlement and next steps in plain language

• LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa
• At least 2 years of post-admission experience in the relevant field
• Right of appearance in the High Court for litigation posts
• Able to manage client relationships without a senior in the room
• Sound judgement under deadline pressure
• Enrolled with the Legal Practice Council and holding a current Fidelity Fund certificate if you handle trust money

• LLM or postgraduate certificate in your specialist area
• Notarial admission

• Paid LPC fees and CPD
• Clear path to directorship at some firms
• Medical aid and retirement fund
• Annual bonus linked to billing

• Give a short matter list with outcomes, stripped of client names, to prove your experience.
