Au Pair / Nanny (After-School Care)

Steady household work in a retired couple's cottage in Isando, with clear days and hours agreed upfront. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a retired couple's cottage in Isando. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Change bed linen and make beds
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon

• South African ID or valid work permit
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Good with children and patient

• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer

• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
