Au Pair / Nanny (After-School Care)

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a family home in Tzaneen. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The site is in Tzaneen; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Clean windows and patio doors once a week

• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Good with children and patient
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine

• Cooking experience with family meals
• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• Experience caring for an older person

• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff

• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
