Automatic Gearbox Technician

You'll service, diagnose and repair cars in a busy independent service workshop in Tzaneen. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

The site is in Tzaneen; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering
• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Coach the apprentice on your bay through basic services
• Write clear job card notes on what you found and what you fixed

• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Your own basic toolbox

• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy
• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training
• Automatic gearbox or DSG repair experience

• Tool allowance or tool insurance
• Productivity bonus on sold hours above target
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer

• Put your trade test date and the car brands you know best at the top of your CV.
• Do not leave gaps unexplained. Say if you were working for yourself or doing mobile repairs.
