Automotive Technician (Diagnostics)

Good with a scan tool and a torque wrench? This independent service workshop in Coega needs you in a bay. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll report in Coega. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering
• Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval
• Coach the apprentice on your bay through basic services

• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Your own basic toolbox
• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars

• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer
• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Productivity bonus on sold hours above target

• If you hit or beat your sold-hour target, say by how much. Workshop managers love that number.
• Do not leave gaps unexplained. Say if you were working for yourself or doing mobile repairs.
