Automotive Technician (Diagnostics)

This independent service workshop in Germiston needs a qualified mechanic who can handle services, repairs and electrical faults. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Germiston, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Write clear job card notes on what you found and what you fixed
• Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval

• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Your own basic toolbox
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams

• Automatic gearbox or DSG repair experience
• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training
• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy

• Tool allowance or tool insurance
• Staff discount on parts and services
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer
• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates

• Put your trade test date and the car brands you know best at the top of your CV.
• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
