Barista & Floor Waitron

This is a floor job at a hotel restaurant in Umhlanga where your tips follow your service. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Umhlanga-based, with most of your time spent at a hotel restaurant. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Explain specials, allergens and wine pairings in plain words.
• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.
• Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
• Greet guests, seat them and hand over menus within a minute of arrival.
• Clear, wipe and reset tables fast during the Friday and Sunday rush.
• Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.

• Quick with basic maths and card machines
• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
• Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
• Happy to work nights, weekends and public holidays
• You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts

• Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills
• Responsible Service of Alcohol training
