Berry Picker (Tunnel Farm)

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a deciduous fruit orchard near Gqeberha through the season. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Home base is a deciduous fruit orchard on the Gqeberha side of Eastern Cape.

• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method

• Valid ID or work permit
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Available for the full harvest season
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules

• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
