Boilermaker (Mine Surface Workshop)

This gold mine shaft complex near Isando needs a trade-tested artisan who is safe, quick and thorough on breakdowns. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a gold mine shaft complex on the Isando side of Gauteng. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Carry out planned maintenance on loaders, drill rigs and utility vehicles
• Order spares and track them through the engineering store
• Test and maintain flameproof electrical equipment in coal sections
• Isolate and lock out machines under the site isolation procedure
• Help with rope inspections and shaft maintenance during scheduled stoppages
• Fault-find hydraulic, electrical and engine faults on trackless machines
• Repair and align conveyor belt drives, pulleys and idlers

• Able to read schematics, hydraulic circuits or wiring diagrams
• Trade test certificate in your trade (diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician, boilermaker, instrumentation or rigger)
• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits
• Certificate of fitness for underground or surface work

• SAP PM module experience
• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM
• Flameproof equipment training for coal mines

• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Housing support in the mining town
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay
• Study assistance for engineering qualifications

• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
• State your trade and the machines or equipment you know best, for example "fitter: conveyors, crushers and pumps".
