Job Description

Big machines, long shifts, good pay: the open-cast coal mine near Kempton Park needs qualified operators. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is in Kempton Park (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

The work, day to day

Push and level material on dumps and stockpiles with the dozer
Report defects and lock out the machine for the maintenance crew
Refuel and wash the machine at the end of your shift where required
Keep radio contact with the dispatch controller and follow the right-of-way rules
Respect the collision avoidance system warnings and park-up rules
Load, haul and tip with the LHD from draw points to the ore pass
Haul ore and waste on the haul road loop to the crusher or dump

You'll need

Certificate of fitness from a mine medical practitioner
Valid operator certificate for the specific machine, from an MQA-accredited provider
Grade 10 at minimum, with Grade 12 strongly preferred
Able to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating day and night roster

Nice if you have

Experience with ultra-class haul trucks
Certificates on two or more machine types

On offer

Company bus from nearby towns to the mine gate
Annual performance bonus
Medical aid subsidy
Shift allowance for night and weekend shifts

Applying, step by step

Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): ID copy, certified and clear, machine operator certificates plus driver's licence copy (front and back).
Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 5 working days.

How2Apply recruits for this position on behalf of hiring employers around Kempton Park; applications go into our talent pool and shortlisted candidates are introduced directly.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

If you live near the mine, say so. Local applicants are often preferred under the Social and Labour Plan.
Put your operator certificate expiry dates on the CV. Expired tickets are the top reason operators get filtered out.
