Boilermaker (Structural Steel Fabrication)

The trailer and truck body builder in Klerksdorp needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is in Klerksdorp (North West). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine

• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs

• Orbital or automatic welding experience
• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1
• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1

• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
