Job Description

The stainless steel equipment manufacturer in Kariega needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

The site is in Kariega; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

What your day looks like

  • Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
  • Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
  • Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
  • Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
  • Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate

What you need

  • Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
  • Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
  • Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
  • At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
  • Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
  • Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification

Helpful, not essential

  • SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1
  • Orbital or automatic welding experience
  • Rigging or crane signalling certificate

What you get

  • Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
  • Coding renewals paid by the employer
  • Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns

Applying, step by step

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Kariega really suit you before you apply.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: current welder coding certificates (check the dates) plus trade test certificate or SAIW qualification.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 9 working days, usually by phone.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Kariega.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Before you hit apply

  • Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
  • Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
