Job Description

You'll wire, fault-find and certify installations for the solar and backup power installer in Coega. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll be based at a solar and backup power installer in Coega. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

What you'll actually do

  • Complete job cards, material lists and test reports at the end of each job
  • Terminate armoured cable and fit glands on three-phase motor supplies
  • Run conduit, trunking and cable tray on new builds and renovations
  • Replace faulty light fittings, plugs, geyser elements and thermostats
  • Install inverters, battery banks and changeover switches for backup power clients
  • Quote small jobs for clients and explain the fault in plain language
  • Lock out and tag out circuits before any work on live equipment

What you need

  • Clean criminal record, since you will work inside client homes
  • Comfortable working at heights on ladders and in roof spaces
  • At least 3 years working as a qualified electrician after your trade test
  • Registered with the Department of Employment and Labour as an Installation Electrician or holding a Wireman's licence
  • Your own basic hand tools and a calibrated multimeter
  • Solid working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and the Electrical Installation Regulations

Extra points for

  • Solar PV installation training and experience with hybrid inverters
  • Master Installation Electrician registration for three-phase CoCs
  • Working at Heights certificate still in date

What's in it for you

  • Overtime paid at time-and-a-half on weekends
  • Company-issued test instruments, calibrated every year
  • Standby allowance when you are on the after-hours roster
  • Provident fund and group risk cover after probation

Applying, step by step

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: certified copy of your ID, Wireman's licence or registration letter from the Department of Employment and Labour plus driver's licence copy.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 10 working days.

How to stand out

  • If you have issued CoCs before, say how many and for what type of property.
  • Put your registration category (IE, MIE or single-phase tester) and registration number right under your name on the CV.
