Bookkeeper to Trial Balance (Sage Pastel)

A small accounting practice in Burgersfort needs a bookkeeper who closes the month on time, every month. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Burgersfort-based, with most of your time spent at a small accounting practice. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items
• Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
• Match orders, delivery notes and invoices before a payment goes out
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling

• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details
• Matric with Accounting
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work

• Registered with SAIPA or the ICB as a bookkeeper
• Knowledge of Sage Evolution or QuickBooks

• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Office hours with no weekend work
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices

• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
