Bookkeeper to Trial Balance (Sage Pastel) – Permanent

A family-owned manufacturer in Hammarsdale needs a bookkeeper who closes the month on time, every month. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Hammarsdale-based, with most of your time spent at a family-owned manufacturer. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Capture supplier invoices and customer receipts on Sage or Xero
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items
• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review

• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work

• Knowledge of Sage Evolution or QuickBooks
• Registered with SAIPA or the ICB as a bookkeeper
• Experience with inventory costing in a trading business

• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices
• Office hours with no weekend work

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
