Breakfast Chef (Lodge)

Service is busy at this hospital catering unit in Midrand, so steady hands and a tidy station matter here. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Midrand, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
• Run your station during service and call back every ticket from the pass.
• Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.
• Receive deliveries, check weights and reject short-dated produce.
• Help cost recipes and track waste on the weekly sheet.
• Label, date and rotate stock using first-in, first-out.

• Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
• Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal
• 1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen
• You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP

• Stock and ordering experience on a system such as Micros or Pilot
• A food safety certificate from a registered training provider
• Pastry or bakery training

• On-the-job training with a path to chef de partie
• Two staff meals per shift
• Transport allowance for split and late shifts
• Chef whites and safety shoes provided

• List your stations (grill, pastry, cold, sauce) under each job; head chefs scan for this first.
• Do not leave gaps unexplained; if you did casual banquet work between jobs, say so on your CV.
