Breakfast Waitron (Hotel Restaurant)

You'll look after tables at a family steakhouse in Pretoria East, from the first greeting to the final bill. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is in Pretoria East (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.
• Restock the bar fridges and help with the weekly stock count.
• Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.
• Pull espresso shots and steam milk for flat whites and cappuccinos.
• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.
• Carry plates to the right seat without auctioning food at the table.

• You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
• You can stand and walk for a full 8-hour shift
• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts
• Quick with basic maths and card machines

• A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans
• Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills

• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Paid menu and wine tastings so you can sell with confidence
• Staff meal on every shift
• You keep your own tips, paid out daily or weekly

• Recruiters ask about a difficult table, so have one real story ready about how you turned it around.
• Put the names of the restaurants you worked at and your average covers per shift at the top of your CV.
