Bricklayer's Assistant – Entry Level

Every wall and slab on this road rehabilitation project in Brakpan needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is Brakpan-based, with most of your time spent at a road rehabilitation project. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer

• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather

• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database

• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
