Job Description

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a road rehabilitation project in Brits. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll be based at a road rehabilitation project in Brits. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What you'll actually do

  • Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
  • Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
  • Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
  • Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
  • Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
  • Clear rubble and load it into skips
  • Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision

What you need

  • Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
  • Grade 8 or higher
  • Prepared to travel between sites in the area
  • Willing to start early, often at 06:30

What's in it for you

  • Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
  • Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
  • Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

How to apply

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Brits really suit you before you apply.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: any safety or scaffolding certificates, certified ID copy and proof of address in the area plus reference letter or phone number from a past foreman.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 9 working days.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Brits.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
  • List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
