Job Description

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a shopping centre renovation in Gqeberha can keep building. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

Home base is a shopping centre renovation on the Gqeberha side of Eastern Cape. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

What you'll actually do

Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines

Must-haves

Grade 8 or higher
Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
A clean record is preferred for some government sites
You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
Prepared to travel between sites in the area
Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather

Helpful, not essential

A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

On offer
