Job Description

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a school building project in Midrand can keep building. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Midrand-based, with most of your time spent at a school building project. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

The work, day to day

  • Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
  • Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
  • Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
  • Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
  • Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts

Must-haves

  • Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
  • You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
  • Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
  • Prepared to travel between sites in the area
  • Grade 8 or higher
  • Willing to start early, often at 06:30

What's in it for you

  • Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
  • Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
  • Paid weekly or fortnightly

How to apply

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): certified ID copy and proof of address in the area plus reference letter or phone number from a past foreman.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 9 working days.

How to stand out

  • Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
  • If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
