Bricklayer's Assistant

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a road rehabilitation project in Richards Bay can keep building. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a road rehabilitation project on the Richards Bay side of KwaZulu-Natal. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work

• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Grade 8 or higher
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
