Bricklayer's Assistant – Permanent

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a shopping centre renovation in Stellenbosch. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer

• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Grade 8 or higher

• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket

• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
