Building Site Supervisor (Commercial Projects)

This general building contractor in Umhlanga needs someone who can read the drawings and get a building out of the ground. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

The work is in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Book NHBRC and municipal inspections at the right stages
• Set out foundations, grid lines and levels with the surveyor or a dumpy level
• Measure completed work for monthly payment certificates
• Order concrete, bricks and steel on time so gangs never stand idle
• Draw up snag lists and close them out before practical completion
• Chair the weekly site meeting and record actions for the principal agent
• Check reinforcing, shuttering and cover blocks before calling for a pour inspection

• National Diploma or BTech in Building or Civil Engineering, or a trade background with site experience
• Good with MS Project or a similar programme tool
• At least 5 years on building or civil sites, 2 of them in a supervisory post
• Code 08 licence and your own reliable transport between sites
