Candidate Attorney (Commercial Law)

You'll do your articles at a labour law practice in Rustenburg and learn the practice from the ground up. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Rustenburg-based, with most of your time spent at a labour law practice. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Keep matter files updated and diarise court dates and deadlines
• Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
• Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
• Prepare affidavits and notices of motion for your principal to review
• Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes
• Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court

• Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs
• LLB degree from a South African university
• Clear criminal record, as required for admission
• Good legal research and clear written English
• Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC

• Second official language used by the firm's clients
• Vacation work at a law firm
• Completed PLT (Practical Legal Training) at a law school

• Paid PLT course fees at some firms
• Study leave for board exams
• Travel allowance for court runs

• Put your LLB, university and graduation year at the top, and your average mark if it's above 65%.
• Apply early in the year, as most firms fill articles from January to March.
